This is shocking, very sad, inappropriate and unacceptable. However, surprisingly and ironically the reverse is familiar and not strange at all in the Muslim Arab World. When I was a doctor in Egypt, it was widespread for Muslim patients especially females to refuse to be treated by a Christian doctor. I used to be nervous and scared when I had to treat a Muslim female patient. Also, the role was and still is; NO CHRISTIAN MALE DOCTORS are ALLOWED OR ACCEPTED IN OBGYN RESIDENCY of course because of their Christian faith. As stupid as this may sound, people also believed that Christian doctors kill Muslim babies at birth to reduce the number of Muslims.
It is sad to see this form of discrimination happen in the land of the free. This makes America no better than a third world backward country.
